Sue Hull is a New Zealand born artist. An ex trainer, facilitator and businesswoman, Sue now lives and has an active Studio in Onewhero, North Waikato.
The biggest influences in Sue’s practice are her love of nature and people and a mix of personal exploration of experiences. Sue is inspired by the world around her with travel, culture and visual wonder that brings joy and satisfaction to her life. Sue has worked with china paints, clay, Hinuera stone sculpture, watercolor, pen and ink, oils and acrylics. Bright coloured acrylic is her present ‘go to medium’. Sue works in her studio, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, with animals, sheep farms, and market gardens, and sells work locally and internationally. |
History
Sue has exhibited since the 1980s as a China Painting Artist, exhibiting, selling, and teaching this medium.
Sue spent time at Auckland Society of Arts Night School under graphic design with Artist Simon Clark (Nobby Clark’s son) and Artist Sylvia Siddell (Peter Siddell’s wife) in Life Drawing. Piers Hayman-Birds
Sue moved from Northcote Point (with kiln in tow) to the Bay of Islands and spent a few years with Kerkeri Art Society clay sculpture and firing with different finishing techniques. Sue exhibited in the Bay of Islands where she sold all pieces.
Sue was runner up in the Telecom exhibition at Rayburn House, Whangarei Gallery and spent time at the Summer School ‘Quarry’ in Whangarei working in stone sculpture with Kap Pothan, a well know NZ Sculpture Artist.
Sue also had a studio/shop on Urupukapuka Island selling acrylic work with a shop as part of the business she was running with Zane Grey, which catered for Fullers Cruises and Dolphin Discoveries.
Sue worked for one year at Sydney Olympics 2000 only photos taken and continuing to be and inspiration to paint.
Sue moved back to Takapuna in 2001 where she purchased a townhouse situated at the water's edge of Lake Pupuke Takapuna. At this point, Sue was working at Lion Nathan School of Business and had three contracts in the South Pacific. This left her with only time to photograph and she still intends to paint from memory of the beautiful natural island of Samoa.
Finally Sue retired and moved back to where she was raised, on a family farm in Onewhero.
